We answer plainly.

The questions are grouped by the kind of stay. If a detail is not verified, it does not appear here as a fact.

ESSENTIALS

The essentials

What is Zen Koggala?

A small lakeside property in southern Sri Lanka — 11 rooms on Koggala Lake, built for remote workers staying a while and for retreat groups taking the place to themselves.

Can I actually work from here?

Yes. 300 Mbps fibre and a co-working room that seats fifteen, air conditioned and facing the water. And if you are a team rather than one person, you can take the whole property — 11 rooms, nobody else on site, and the long table becomes your meeting room.

How long can I stay?

As long as you like — a week, a month, a season. There is no published monthly rate yet, so send us your dates and we will quote you.

Can we run a retreat here?

Yes. Your group takes the property exclusively — all 11 rooms, up to 22 guests, and no other booking while you are here. Practice happens on the deck; organisers bring their own teacher and programme.

When is the best time to come?

Any month. We are on a lake, not the sea — it stays calm and green all year, while the coast is rough for a good part of it. Kayaks go out from the deck, the boat safari leaves from here, and the pool is there for swimming. Around 30°C in January.

Where is it, and how do I get there?

On Koggala Lake in the Galle District, about two hours from Colombo airport. We arrange the transfer — just ask. The beach is five minutes away.

Are meals included?

Breakfast is, in every rate — three courses, and you choose Sri Lankan, English or plant-based. Most of what you eat is grown here: Chandini picks the vegetables from our garden in the morning and cooks them into rice and curry the same evening. Half board adds dinner, full board adds lunch as well. Simple, natural food, cooked fresh — and if you want it lighter or plant-based for a whole stay, the kitchen builds it around you.

WORKING

Staying a while

Where exactly do I work?

There is a co-working room that seats fifteen — air conditioned, high-back chairs, the whole room facing the lake. Two connections behind it: 300 Mbps fibre and Starlink as a second, independent line.

Will I be on my own here?

It is a small place — 11 rooms — with a lakefront lounge and one long table at dinner. You will meet the other guests unless you would rather not.

Can a whole team come?

Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to book here. A team takes all 11 rooms, nobody else is on the property, and meals run to your day rather than a hotel's. Tell us the size of the group and the dates.

FOOD

Food and the garden

Where does the food come from?

Our own garden, mostly. Chandini has lived in Harumalgoda longer than anyone else here; she grows the vegetables, picks them that morning, and cooks them into rice and curry the same evening. Plenty of places on this coast say the food is local — here you can walk out and meet the person who grew it.

Can I eat lunch and dinner here?

Yes. Half board adds a three-course dinner, full board adds lunch as well, and both can be arranged for a whole group or a whole stay.

Do you cook vegan and vegetarian?

Always, and not as an afterthought — there is a plant-based choice at every meal, built from the same garden vegetables as everything else.

Is the floating breakfast included?

No — the floating breakfast and the flower bath are arranged on request and charged separately.

ROOMS

Rooms and booking

What rooms are there?

Five types across 11 rooms — Nirvana Suite, Zen Double, Zen Twin, Zen Triple, Family Room — sleeping two to four.

Can I book just one room?

Yes. You do not need a group to come here — plenty of guests arrive on their own or as a couple and take a single room.

Do children stay free?

Children under six stay free.

What time is check-in?

Check in from 2:00 PM, check out by 12:00 noon.

How do I book?

Check your dates on our booking page. Our team then confirms and arranges payment with you directly.
